The Iran expedition will take six weeks and start with a ski ascent of Mount Damavand (5 671 meter), the highest peak in the Middle East. Hedin ascended successfully in 1890 and wrote his doctoral thesis on Dam?vand. Then we will follow Hedin’s route, from the 1906 expedition through the deserts of eastern Persia, by four wheel drive cars from Tehran and south east throughout the country to the border of Pakistan. Hedin made special effort in studying the central desert of Iran – Dasht-e Kavir – by crossing its midsection twice, and we will try to repeat that same route.
