Beautiful and desolate oases in the desert

After crossing the Dasht-e Kavir we arrived at the first village on the other side. This small oasis is called Arusun and after spending three days in the horrible and lifeless salt desert it was like arriving to a paradise. It was fantastic to see all these palm trees and green plants. The water was flowing straight through the oasis from a ganat and we took the opportunity to wash the salt off ourselves.

We also met an old shepherd that was one of the now only two inhabitants left in Arusun. He invited us to stay in his house for the night and we happily accepted his offer. This village was a good example of the changes that have taken place since Hedin’s time and exactly what we were looking for.
