On the cover of National Geographic

The November issue of National Geographic (Nordic) was released this week and the cover photo is from our Iran expedition! I shot the cover photo in Dasht-e Kavir and it shows Babak driving his Landrover towards the sand dunes in the south. Inside the magazine you will find a 24-page feature story that I have written about our journey in Sven Hedin’s footsteps.

Yesterday I went to the National Geographic Global Exploration Fund Northern Europe office in Stockholm for a meeting about some future plans. What I didn’t know was that Camilla and the rest of the gang was waiting with sparkling wine and a surprise cake with my magazine cover printed onto it. This was a huge surprise for me and I was very happy and honored – thanks guys!

The NG crew in Stockholm consists of program officer Camilla Hansen, executive director Joakim Mörnefält and two new employees, Merci Olsson and Emma Edwall, that I had the opportunity to meet for the first time. The guys from National Geographic channel have their head quarters at the same place and also attended – it was great to meet everybody.

I am really proud to be working with the National Geographic Society – they are a fantastic organisation – and I would like to thank everybody that have been involved in our grant and the publication in the magazine. Special thanks to Camilla and editor in chief Karen Gunn for being so positive and nice to work with.
